Peter Cathro

Peter Cathro

Bio:

In the television and film industry since 1983 Peter has always been a story- teller, where the boundaries between truth and the apocryphal exist remains elusive, but found that he was a poor speller. Solution? Do the story-telling through television pictures.

Greatest fantasy piece of directing? Peter has always been drawn to the story of Lawrence of Arabia director David Lean, tired and emotional, having a Ugandan affair in a tent with a young actress (called something very English like Penny Ainsbotham) while 200 extras sweltered in the sun awaiting the call. Cryto-Freudians are, as we speak, still reverberating in the closet over this one.

Two benchmark programmes intersect in Peter's career: Captain Pugwash ("It made me the man I am today") and his directing opus on the marijuana industry, Green, Green Grass of Home (1992/93 which he says, "was my truth. There seems precious little of that about today.") He sees the use of more local content on TV as "not a bad thing" and tentatively suggests "the charter seems to be working".
